Interview tips

I may not be the right one to give a speech on how to get hired or to write an article on interview tips. But I might have experiences that others don’t have. I shall not say that I am a good example to follow but somehow you can take out the good points and try it out! :D

I had gone through many interview. If you are a fresh grad and have lack of experiences, most of the interviewer will asked basic question to test your communication skills, your ability to elaborate any topic and to see your confident level. Well, I can summarize it into 3 points:

  1. Introduce yourself - Explain about your education and your working experience (your internship is one of it). Elaborate the task that you have done. Don’t go babbling about your father's job or your mother's hometown or whatever it is because my uncle ( who is a senior manager in a private sector) said that the whole interview session is to market yourself and do not waste it.
  2. Strength and weakness - Fresh grads usually made mistake at this part. The objective is to see how you well you know about yourself and the ability to see and elaborate yourself. Give examples and don’t simply say, "I am a team player, I am a fast learner, I am willing to try". Give supporting details for every thing that you said. What is the prove that you are a team player? Relate it with your past experience, for example your experience in managing a programme.Anddd, to explain about your weakness is not to make a fool of yourself in front of the interviewer. Make sure you back up your weakness to a positive impact. Eg: "My weakness is that I am too focusing on my job and it creates tense to the team but the good thing is, I make sure that the job is done".
  3. Knowledge - What I mean here is, you may be tested on your knowledge about the position that you apply. You need to study, research and do revision about the job scope and the requirement that they need.

No matter how the question sounds like, the answer will be just the same. The tip is give examples on your previous experience. Relate the points with the facts. Smile and give a good eye contact. It works on me.

Its okay if you failed during the interview because you gonna learn the tricks and tackle the situation soon. I failed my Shell's interview by the way :) .

All the best ! :D
